Children in Need

Worcester based Internet Services Provider Namesco went Children in Need crazy today helping to raise money for the renowned charity. As well as donating a pound from every new domain name sale made on their popular website www.names.co.uk, staff at local Perdiswell Park offices participated in a day of activities and challenges to raise money in support of the cause. Customers calling to place orders with Namesco were also treated to the potential of talking to a famous movie star, as staff took part in themed fancy dress. For a donation managers were happy to make drinks during morning break times and staff took part in fun challenges and activities during lunch breaks, including team races, hockey and a love hearts eating competition. Midlands based Vamix NV (UK) the award winning food wholesaler; known for their brambly apple turnovers kindly donated delicious cakes for staff to purchase throughout the afternoon, with all proceeds going to the charity. Gillian Pope from Namesco^s Charity committee said "It's great to see so many staff taking part and helping us to raise a fantastic amount for Children in Need"

PC Pro Magazine Best Web Hosts Finalist

Namesco is delighted to have been short listed for PC Pro magazines Best Web Hosts Award 2008.

These awards are entirely reader voted and based upon 15,000 PC Pro readers’ views on customer service and reliability. The PC Pro Reliability & Service Awards are amongst the most prestigious in the IT industry. In each category, readers are asked to rate the reliability of the products they have bought, customer support, and how satisfied they are – in particular, if they would buy from that company again.

Names.co.uk on the up

According to research carried out by market research firm Nielsen Online, Names.co.uk was listed as the 8th fastest growing website during the past year.

Societys concerns about the economy are being reflected through the results, as the top ten positions were dominated by money saving websites.

Namesco have seen an increase in broadband usage during the summer months and have attributed this to recent economic challenges and the incremental summer weather. Holidaymakers are choosing UK breaks over foreign destinations as a way of saving money during this time of economic uncertainty. Consumers are searching for the best deals online and are spending more time indoors, which has increased Internet usage.

Nielsen Online commented the potential shake-up of domain name addresses and the huge increases in personalised web pages means consumers are more attuned to creating their own websites. Registration of .Me domain extensions hit 100,000 just two weeks after launch as more people are interested in having a personal connection to the web, using their websites to share personal blogs and photos.

Internet Shake up

ICANN Announces its support for new TLD domain extensions! On Friday, ICANN, the net's regulator, voted unanimously to relax the strict rules on so-called "top-level" domain names, such as .com or .uk. The decision means that companies could turn brands into web addresses, while individuals could use their names such as .smith or .namesco. "We are opening up a new world and I think this cannot be underestimated," said Roberto Gaetano, a member of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). As one of the UK’s largest registrars for Domain Names, Namesco have welcomed the news! “Namesco has always been at the very forefront of new domain name extensions. We are all waiting to hear the next steps from ICANN, but nevertheless, despite being early days we’re all very excited about what this means for the internet community as well as for Namesco and its customers.” Jason Smith, Director (Namesco Ltd). Namesco join Ofcom Code of Practice

We are pleased to announce that Namesco has signed up to Ofcoms new voluntary code of practice aimed at building consumer’s trust in the ISP industry. The new code, announced this month states that ISPs are to provide clear caveats and accurate broadband speed estimates at the point of sale and on their websites.
